Engineering Manager - Electrical

Position Overview:

We are looking for a seasoned and driven Engineering Manager - Electrical to lead our electrical design efforts within the medium voltage switchgear product line. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader who brings both deep technical knowledge and a passion for developing engineers in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the electrical engineering team responsible for the design and documentation of medium voltage switchgear systems.
  • Interpret and develop front elevations, one-line and three-line diagrams, and transform quote/customer requirements into comprehensive drawing and documentation packages.
  • Design and review control circuits, transfer schemes, differential protection schemes, and PT/CPT load calculations.
  • Ensure all electrical designs align with functional requirements, customer specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering, project management, and manufacturing teams to ensure cohesive, build-ready switchgear designs.
  • Maintain deep understanding of internal wiring layouts and provide guidance on best practices for safety, compliance, and manufacturability.
  • Ensure all designs meet ANSI, NEC, and UL standards and support efforts for certification and compliance.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and technically strong team environment.
  • Support the transition of designs from concept to production, troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical design of medium voltage switchgear/similar products, is required.
  • Deep knowledge of switchgear internal wiring, layout, and protection/control schemes.
  • Proficient in interpreting and producing one-line, three-line, and front elevation diagrams.
  • Experienced in converting customer specifications and quote documents into fully detailed drawing packages.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design aspects of switchgear for integrated engineering support.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks is required.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards including ANSI, NEC, and UL.
  • Prior leadership experience or team management responsibilities is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proactive approach to team development.

Preferred Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of switchgear.
  • Background in a manufacturing or project-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
