Job Responsibilities

The employee will implement a suite of long-term, fisheries independent, monitoring programs focused on species of recreational importance, commercial value, and/or conservation priority status (including blue crab and horseshoe crab). The successful applicant will conduct field work from small and large research vessels for multiple concurrent field-based projects necessary for monitoring the population status of key crustacean species. The employee will be expected to have a general understanding of the ecology and life history of crustaceans such as blue crab and horseshoe crab. The employee will also be expected to conduct fieldwork in freshwater and marine habitats under challenging conditions and have experience operating small research vessels (<20') in support of research and monitoring projects. The employee will be encouraged to participate in the dissemination of monitoring and research findings.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area.

Preferred Qualifications

A broad knowledge of the ecology, life history, and fisheries practices concerning recreationally- and commercially-important crustaceans, and those of conservation priority in SC. Strong communication and organizational skills. An ability to effectively trailer and operate small research vessels in support of field sampling, and familiarity with standard crustacean sampling techniques.
