Job Title: Traffic Engineer

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Traffic Engineer to perform traffic engineering services within a dynamic planning and civil engineering firm headquartered in South Florida. The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with proven leadership skills, deep technical expertise, and a strong understanding of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards, local agency processes, and multimodal transportation solutions. This position offers the opportunity to shape projects that enhance mobility, safety, and sustainability across South Florida communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage traffic engineering projects including safety, traffic studies, signal design, corridor studies, capacity analysis, and traffic impact analyses.
- Provide technical oversight and quality control for traffic engineering deliverables.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technical staff; support team development and resource planning.
- Collaborate with planners, roadway engineers, and clients on multidisciplinary projects.
- Interface with FDOT Districts, MPOs, local governments, and private clients to coordinate project objectives and approvals.
- Prepare scopes of work, fee estimates, and assist with proposal development and business development initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with FDOT, MUTCD, AASHTO, and local jurisdiction standards and guidelines.
- Utilize traffic engineering software including Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, and other modeling tools.
- Represent the firm in public meetings, client presentations, and technical workshops.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in traffic engineering; minimum of 2 years in a leadership or project management role.
- Strong understanding of FDOT processes, particularly in Districts 4 and 6.
- Proficiency with Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and MS Office.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- PTOE certification.
- Experience with traffic signal design and signing & pavement marking plans.
- Familiarity with Complete Streets and Vision Zero principles.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
