FMC International is seeking a highly skilled Senior Maritime Surveyor and Consultant to join our expert team. In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of surveys and technical assessments on board maritime vessels and facilities in the US and overseas. You will be responsible for assessing compliance with global and national maritime regulations including SOLAS, MARPOL, and USCG COFR requirements. FMC is looking for an experienced and confident professional who can work independently and lead others with precision and integrity. You will interact with ship crews, the U.S. Coast Guard, legal entities, and maritime authorities representing FMC International with the highest standards of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive onboard surveys and inspections to ensure vessels meet all regulatory, safety, and technical standards.
  • Evaluate vessel structures, machinery, safety systems, and documentation and provide expert recommendations.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed inspection reports, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Advise on technical and legal matters using your extensive professional expertise.
  • Ensure compliance with international and local maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and USCG requirements.
  • Stay current with evolving industry standards, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and provide guidance on corrective measures to prevent future occurrences.
  • Represent FMC International in a professional manner in all client and authority interactions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators and industry stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Licensing: Chief Engineer or Master Mariner (Unlimited) License, issued by a recognized maritime authority.
  • Experience: Atleast 15 years of maritime experience, including a minimum of 2 years as Chief Engineer or Master, preferably on tankers.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, and ISPS. Familiarity with classification societies, flag/port state control.
  • Surveying/Auditing Experience: Prior experience conducting technical inspections, surveys, and audits of vessels is preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact across all levels.
  • Analytical Abilities: Proven diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with attention to technical detail.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform onboard inspections, which may involve climbing, confined space entry, and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel on short notice, domestically and internationally.
  • Work Visa Requirements: Full authorization to work in the USA.
