Job Description

Position Summary

A cutting-edge power semiconductor company is seeking a PrincipalPower Electronics Engineer to join their engineering team in Austin, TX. This innovative organization is developing a next-generation power semiconductor technology designed to improve efficiency and reduce losses in AC power applications across electric vehicles, renewable energy, data centers, energy storage, and industrial systems.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on engineer to contribute directly to the development, testing, and commercialization of new power device driving technologies. The role offers the chance to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and test PCB-based gate drivers for use in converters, inverters, and solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) applications.
  • Collaborate with applications engineering to support customer integration.
  • Perform characterization of discrete power devices and modules, including datasheet generation and comparative benchmarking.
  • Develop technical documentation, white papers, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide technicians during prototyping and testing activities.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong expertise in gate driver design with a deep understanding of circuit-level tradeoffs and prior industry implementations.
  • Hands-on experience with power electronics systems, including DC/AC converters, inverters, and SSCBs.
  • Skilled in analog/digital circuit analysis, SPICE simulations, PCB layout (Altium), and lab-based validation testing.
  • Proficient in using lab equipment for switch and module characterization.
  • Familiarity with power semiconductor devices (IGBT, MOSFET, SiC, BJT, FRD).
  • Preferred: Microcontroller programming experience (C++ or Python).
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to work under tight timelines in a dynamic development environment.
