Government Affairs Intern

Assist with the day-to-day operations of EAA's advocacy efforts. Help keep members informed on actions the Advocacy and Safety department undertakes with regards to legislative and regulatory issues. The centerpiece of this experience is the preparation and execution of EAA's advocacy program at its annual AirVenture convention, the largest gathering of general aviation enthusiasts in the world. Provides a hands-on opportunity to participate in regulatory policy at the federal level, state and local airport policy and advocacy, aviation safety analysis, VIP hosting, and more.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Review of the Federal Register
• Research of publications and online sources for information relevant to legislative affairs and government agency initiatives
• Tracking and analysis of aviation accident trends
• Tracking of proposed federal agency actions and assisting in development of EAA's response
• Fielding, researching and developing recommended solutions for member inquiries
• Assisting with writing regular updates to the Government Advocacy section of the EAA web site, eHotline newsletter, and Sport Aviation
• Aiding in the upkeep of EAA Advocacy meeting spaces during AirVenture and performance of other AirVenture tasks as assigned
• Embracing and supporting the EAA mission and performing safe practices in the workplace and aviation environment.
• All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled in/recent graduate of a college degree program that emphasizes aviation and/or government affairs.
• Working knowledge of federal and state government processes, activities and regulations
• Pilot certificate and/or aviation experience is preferred.

• High level of organizational skill and ability to manage time effectively
• Ability to work independently and take on tasks proactively
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key colleagues in other areas of EAA.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements

Typical office setting. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
