Job Description

Why Indemni, why now?

Every year, $20T of U.S. freight changes hands on the strength of a paper Bill of Lading and a quick nod at the dock door. When thieves strike, a $250k load can vanish in minutes.

Indemni is not just addressing this soft underbelly; we're forging it into an impenetrable layer of security. We're launching the first  real-time identity and document verification platform specifically engineered for the complexities of logistics – the Stripe-level risk engine the supply chain world needs to move cargo securely through warehouses, ports, and yards globally.

And now, Indemni is offering true end-to-end protection. Recognizing that even the most robust preventative measures can't eliminate all risk, we're  bundling tailored insurance solutions directly with our preventative software.

Here's how this integrated approach empowers 3PLs:

  1. Proactive Risk Mitigation, Reactive Financial Security:   We actively prevent fraud and theft of cargo, verifying identities and documents in real-time. Our bundled insurance acts as a crucial safety net, providing financial coverage in the event that, despite these best efforts, a loss does occur. This creates a comprehensive risk management strategy, not just a reactive “indemnification”.
  2. Coverage Tailored to Preventative Software:  Because we bundle insurance with software, we gain a deeper understanding of the inherent risk. This allows us to offer more tailored and cost-effective insurance products specifically designed for transactions secured by Indemni's verification process.
  3. Streamlined Claims Process with Virtuous Data:   Indemni's platform provides a clear and auditable record of each transaction, This significantly streamlines the claims process, reducing disputes and accelerating payouts for 3PLs. The "quick nod" is replaced with verifiable proof.
  4. Reduced Premiums Through Enhanced Security:  By actively reducing the likelihood of fraudulent activity, Indemni empowers 3PLs with more favorable insurance premiums. We gain greater confidence in the security of our software, leading to tangible cost savings for our customers..
  5. Unified Solution for Risk Management:   Indemni offers a single point of contact for both preventative security measures and financial protection. This simplifies operations for 3PLs, eliminating the need to manage separate software vendors and insurance providers. We provide a cohesive solution that addresses the entire spectrum of supply chain risk.

Started by operators from Flexport and DoorDash, we’re already piloting with warehouses and carriers across the US who move some of the most valuable cargo between warehouses, airports and ports (think national security level importance such as server racks, GPUs, electronics, etc.). We're not just securing freight; we're providing 3PLs with the peace of mind that comes from true end-to-end protection in a historically vulnerable industry.

What you’ll do

  1. Own green-field underwriting practice.  Lay the foundation for high-volume, low-error risk assessment in a domain with zero tolerance for miscalculations or coverage gaps.
  2. Bind policies at speed.   Analyze risks, structure coverage, and issue quotes weekly alongside the founders. Your judgment will literally decide whether a million-dollar risk is insured.
  3. Set underwriting guidelines and culture.  Define our bar for risk evaluation, documentation, and compliance. Choose the tools, data sources, and processes future underwriters will follow.
  4. Think like a founder.  Jump from evaluating complex submissions to designing new product offerings, from white-boarding a reinsurance strategy to refining our rating models. If it helps the agency secure profitable growth, it’s in scope.

About the Role

Indemni’s underwriting approach will be client-centric with a heavy emphasis on an efficient process. Our goal will be to leverage our technology and data to make quick, informed, underwriting decisions tailored to our client's specific needs.

How we think about hiring (ranked from most important to least):

  • Bias for action. “Good > perfect” resonates, but you still meticulously evaluate the risk (the stakes are high).
  • Product intuition. You ask why this coverage structure and think first and foremost in risk profiles (what risks are we covering and is this a risk worth underwriting at this rate?).
  • Comfort everywhere in the policy lifecycle. Interpreting loss runs in the morning and structuring complex endorsements in the afternoon are a breeze for you.
  • 5+ yrs underwriting inland marine / marine cargo insurance, ideally including cargo, transportation, or liability lines.
  • Nice-to-haves: Experience with 3PLs, supply chain risk management, integrating technology into underwriting, actuarial concepts, or loss control/prevention strategies.

What’s in it for you

  • Build an industry-defining underwriting practice  at the zero-to-one stage. Your early decisions will have a long-lasting impact as we grow.
  • Bundling insurance & preventative software.  From complex hazard analysis to navigating state-specific compliance, the challenges are intricate and evolving.
  • Real-world impact.   Secure million-dollar risks, protect businesses that underpin everything from critical infrastructure to local commerce.

Logistics (pun intended)

  • Location: New York or San Francisco. We’re a hybrid team based in San Francisco, but we’re happy to support the growth of a small team in New York.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Hybrid-work environment
  • Gym
