founding fullstack / ai engineer

📍san fran (remote) · $150k - $200k + 0.5–1.25% equity

PLEASE NOTE: you will be the first hire in sf - the role is remote but you must be based in the area because they're looking to open an office in the future. you'll collab with the core team based in nyc.

a post-launch ai startup (backed by a16z) is rebuilding how people manage email and workflows from the ground up — not just slapping ai on top of old ui, but rethinking the whole experience. small full-time team in place (ex-google, repeat founders), supported by contractors. now looking for a fullstack engineer to join early and help take it to the next level.

you’ll be backend-leaning but comfortable across the stack — someone who can architect systems, ship fast, and iterate directly with founders. this is a rare mix of product ownership, technical challenge, and actual user impact.

what you’ll do

• build core backend systems for parsing, processing, and summarizing high-volume email
• integrate llms into the product in practical, user-facing ways
• contribute across the stack ( node, react, aws, postgres ) to keep the team shipping
• define early eng standards and influence product direction

what they’re looking for

• 5–10 years' experience in startups or top-tier eng teams (think stripe, vercel, openai)
• deep backend skills (node + infra), with real-world ai product exposure
• someone who ships side projects for fun, keeps up with the latest, and thrives in early-stage chaos
• nyc-based (or open to relocating) and eager to be hands-on

bonus points

• experience with viral consumer tools or 0→1 products
• frontend chops (react, swift, perf)
• past eng leadership or founder experience
