Job Description

The Employee Relations Manager serves as a Human Resources partner across all US properties. Under the direction of the Vice President/HR Director, this role works closely with Asset Management and local property management to provide sound and timely strategic counsel on employee relation matters in support of their goal to be best in class in property management and improve employee performance and retention at the property level.

The ideal candidate is well-rounded HR practitioner and experienced in counseling managers in policy and procedure interpretation, performance management and handling employee relations and investigations. In addition, you are familiar with statutory leave requirements and administration and good hiring practices.

Responsibilities:

As an Employee Relations Manager, you will provide support to the Vice President, Director of Human Resources and various levels of management in property level employment matters.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with management to provide direction and guidance on employment issues including disciplinary actions, behavior and conduct issues, terminations, leave administration, workplace conflict and other HR related issues, consulting with legal as appropriate.
  • Partner with management to ensure proper policies and procedures are followed when preparing communications related to employee counseling and disciplinary action.
  • Assist management in preparing performance management and formal disciplinary actions.
  • Work with managers to develop employee performance improvement plans.
  • Ensure official documentation is properly maintained to support recommended employment actions.
  • Manage internal employment investigations process; work with senior leadership within HR, Legal and Asset Management to facilitate investigations
  • Regularly review HR performance forms and processes and make recommendations for change and provide managers with performance management training.
  • Be familiar with employment laws, employee and wage data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
  • Liaise with Risk Management and Property Management in administering and tracking leaves of absence.
  • Lend assistance with recruiting/employment screening, new hire orientation, HR initiatives, and development training. Make recommendations for improvements and assist in implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree. HR certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience (10+ preferred) demonstrating a proven track record of managing and resolving complex employee relations matters in a collaborative way within a multi-state business environment.
  • Strong knowledge of laws and regulations related to employee relations including but not limited to anti-discrimination/harassment, wage and hour, Fair Labor Standards Act, business ethics and other federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-state, fast-paced environment.
  • Solution oriented with a keen ability to make well-reasoned and timely decisions and provide strategic guidance on issues based on careful, objective review and informed analysis of available considerations and factors.
  • Demonstrate discretion and confidentiality in work.
  • Experience and skill in drafting employee facing communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate well with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate training or present effectively to groups of employees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency using HRIS software to research and analyze employee data.
  • Ability to meet the demands of the work schedule. May occasionally require the ability to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
  • Ability to travel domestically from time to time.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Microsoft office, PowerPoint.
  • Minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in a similar HR management position required.
  • Bachelors Degree preferred.
