Job Description

About Freefly

Freefly Systems builds professional-grade drones and power products such as Astro, Alta X, SL8 smart batteries, and the Pilot Pro controller. We need a hands-on embedded firmware engineer who can write real-time code for our microcontrollers, bring up new boards, and solve the tough hardware-software problems that help us build the World’s Toughest Drones.

What you’ll own

  • Ship new firmware features for Astro, Alta X, SL8 batteries and Pilot Pro in your first year.
  • Board bring-up & validation for new and revised PCBs (schematic review, flashing, test automation).
  • Deep-dive debugging of tricky issues across sensors, power, comms and real-time control loops.

Must-have qualifications

  • 5+ years of embedded-firmware experience (or a rock-star portfolio that proves equivalent depth).
  • Strong C/C++ on bare-metal or RTOS targets and solid grasp of RTOS concepts (tasks, ISRs, queues).
  • Python for test automation, scripting and tooling.
  • STM32 experience is a must.
  • Comfortable probing hardware (SWD/JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
  • On-site role in Woodinville, WA; daily collaboration with EE and higher-level software teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • PX4 flight-stack or other UAV / robotics experience.
  • Power-system know-how (battery management, high-current electronics).
  • Exposure to PCBA design / layout.
  • Visible open-source contributions, drone projects, or competition wins that show passion for Freefly’s world.

Seniority: Mid-level individual contributor – someone who can run with tasks independently but isn’t expected to architect the entire stack.

Experience signal: The more substantive project work, the better; we value shipped product and demonstrable skills over GPA.

Regulatory constraints: None
