Job Description

The Director of Inclusion and Student Services ensures neurodiverse learners thrive in our inclusive arts-integrated setting by leading special education, intervention, and wellness programs. Rooted in our mission and our Portrait of a Graduate, this role is essential to helping all students grow intellectually, artistically, and socially.

Impact

This role directly supports the success and sense of belonging of students with IEPs, 504s, and those needing academic or behavioral interventions. Through leadership, coordination, and collaboration, the Director ensures that inclusive practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies are embedded across classrooms and that student services align with our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

Key Responsibilities

Inclusive Education & Instructional Leadership

  • Ensure fidelity of IEP and 504 plan implementation.
  • Coach and consult with teachers on inclusive practices, UDL strategies, and IEP goal alignment.
  • Collaborate with arts educators to integrate OT/sensory and literacy goals into arts projects (dance, drama, music, visual arts).
  • Lead the SST process for students in k-8 grade, using MTSS frameworks for academic and social-emotional interventions.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision of student services staff: Resource Specialists, Social Worker and/or School Counselor, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Interns, Paraprofessionals. Also, the Literacy and Math Specialists (In collaboration with the Lower School Director)
  • Liaise with outside providers as needed.
  • Partner with SFUSD and SELPA for staffing, compliance, professional development, and program oversight.

Compliance & Assessment

  • Coordinate special education assessments and progress monitoring.
  • Lead accessibility planning for CAASPP and other statewide assessments.
  • Ensure timely completion of IEPs, 504s, and SST documentation per California Department of Education standards.

Community & Family Engagement

  • Lead family education nights related to inclusion, IEPs, behavior supports, and learning strategies.
  • Build partnerships with local arts and disability-advocacy organizations to enrich student experiences.
  • Communicate regularly and clearly with families to ensure shared understanding and meaningful collaboration.

Schoolwide Contributions

  • Oversee the Learning Center scheduling and operations.
  • Serve on the Leadership Team and contribute to schoolwide vision, policy, and equity-centered planning.
  • Lead and participate in Restorative Practices circles and community-building efforts.
  • Lead and Collaborate on Professional Development around inclusion, SPED, trauma informed practices, etc.

Qualifications

  • Valid California Education Specialist Credential required; Administrative Services Credential preferred.
  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in special education, with supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MTSS, UDL, restorative practices, and arts-integrated learning strategies.
  • Experience with SEIS, Playground IEP, and other Special education software preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Bilingual Spanish-English strongly preferred but not required.

  • Work Environment : On-site in San Francisco, with some evening events and off-site meetings as needed
