Job Description

Job Summary:

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for the collection, analysis, and reporting of cost-related data to support effective financial management and strategic decision-making. This position will collaborate closely with operations and finance teams to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and margin analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular cost reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Maintain and update standard costs in the system; perform annual cost roll-ups.
  • Monitor inventory transactions and reconcile inventory accounts regularly.
  • Analyze work-in-progress (WIP), scrap, variances, and labor utilization.
  • Assist with the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries related to cost accounting.
  • Support forecasting and budgeting activities by providing cost data and analysis.
  • Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to ensure accuracy in bills of materials (BOM), routings, and labor standards.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data modeling).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial teams.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment (required)
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA (preferred but not required)
