ABOUT BBB NATIONAL PROGRAMS’ CHILDREN’S ADVERTISING REVIEW UNIT
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) is a self-regulatory program that, since 1974, has served both the business community and the public by seeking to sustain high standards of truth and accuracy through adherence to CARU’s self-regulatory guidelines. CARU seeks change through the voluntary cooperation of companies and where relevant, enforcement action. CARU monitors websites and online services for compliance with its Self-Regulatory Program for Children’s Advertising, it’s Self-Regulatory Guidelines for Children’s Online Privacy Protection, as well as with the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
YOUR IMPACT
As an extern with CARU, you will help support responsible advertising to children. You will monitor advertisements, websites and online services, including mobile applications and generative AI, for compliance with CARU’s Advertising Guidelines, CARU’s Privacy Guidelines, and COPPA.
You will also assist CARU in monitoring regulatory and legislative actions relating to children’s advertising, children’s online privacy and data collection practices, as well as online safety.
