Job Description

We are seeking a Karate Instructor for our afterschool program at SAM School! This position offers the chance to combine your passion for martial arts with the opportunity to work with Nursery (3 years) and Pre-K (4 years) students at one of the premier private schools in the state. We are looking for individuals who have a strong foundation in karate and can create a fun, structured, and engaging learning environment where students develop confidence, discipline, and coordination.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively engage and motivate students during karate lessons and activities.
  • Develop your own karate curriculum that emphasizes basic techniques, discipline, and physical fitness.
  • Create lesson plans that are engaging and developmentally appropriate for children in Nursery through Pre-K.
  • Incorporate movement, stretching, and fun drills to improve motor skills and focus.
  • Collaborate with the admin to manage student progress and behavioral expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding student and program-related matters.
  • Utilize company-wide digital platforms to perform administrative tasks (e.g., taking attendance, submitting incident reports as needed, etc.).
  • Maintain a safe and structured environment for all students.
  • Foster a vibrant, inclusive, and fun learning atmosphere by consistently offering a positive and enthusiastic approach to teaching.

This is you:

  • Experience teaching or training in karate, preferably with young children.
  • Punctuality and reliability are a must!
  • Ability to clearly communicate rules and expectations to children is essential.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are highly valued.
  • A high level of professionalism and motivation is expected.
  • A neat and professional appearance is appreciated.
  • Ability to develop and implement age-appropriate karate curriculum.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental karate techniques and philosophy.

The Schedule:

  • Day: Wednesday (part-time availability)
  • Time: 2:30 - 4 PM (broken into two sessions: 2:30 - 3:15 PM and 3:15 - 4 PM)
  • Season begins: September 9th, with candidates who can commit for the full 2024-25 school year.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in or completed a Bachelor's program in Physical Education, Martial Arts, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Teaching or coaching experience, preferably with elementary-level students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young learners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in curriculum development.

  • At least 1 year of teaching or coaching experience, preferably with elementary-level students.

  • Strong background in karate training, movement, and discipline techniques.
